The Ten Tenors

About The Ten Tenors

Known for their dynamic live performances, Australia's the Ten Tenors are a popular classical-crossover ensemble who perform an eclectic mix of originals and cover songs with their signature multi-voiced harmony. Since emerging in the early 2000s, the group (whose membership continually evolves) has toured extensively, performing a mix of operatic arias and pop and rock standards, as well as sharing the stage with such luminaries as Andrea Bocelli, Christina Aguilera, Lionel Richie, and others. They have issued a number of Top 20 classical albums including 2004's Larger Than Life, 2006's Here's to the Heroes, and 2017's Wish You Were Here. Formed in 1995, the Ten Tenors initially began as a student ensemble based out of the University of Brisbane. Much of their early career was spent touring the country's small towns and universities. They gained wider international attention after their appearance at The Eurovision Grand Prix de la Chanson in Kiel, Germany, where they performed a soaring medley of the songs that made the finals. It was the group's ability to mix classical, rock, and opera with an effusive charisma that resulted in chart success with albums like 2002's One Is Not Enough, 2004's Larger Than Life, and 2006's Here's to the Heroes, the latter of which landed at number three in Australia and reached the Top 15 on the classical charts in the United States. Nostalgica arrived in 2008, and featured arrangements of classic songs like "Bésame Mucho" and "Over the Rainbow." It was followed in 2010 by Double Platinum, which hit number three in Australia. The aptly named On Broadway, Vol. 1 arrived in 2014 and saw the tenors take on a set of show tunes. It was followed a year later by the holiday-themed Our Christmas Wish. In 2016, they issued In Mezzo Al Mare, which featured 13 of the group's most beloved Mediterranean-inspired songs. An in memoriam celebration album, Wish You Were Here, appeared the next year and showcased songs by artists like Freddie Mercury, David Bowie, and Leonard Cohen. It landed at number three on the Billboard Classical Albums chart. In 2019, they released the romantic Love Is in the Air. ~ Matt Collar
