About Rilo Kiley

Formed in 1998, Rilo Kiley made smart, adventurous indie pop infused with laidback California cool. The chill rock vibes were thanks in part to its lead singer, the ‘80s child star-turned-singer Jenny Lewis, who lent the band her Hollywood chic. Her twangy vocals, clever wordplay, and lyrics that seemed ripped from the pages of her diary, paired perfectly with the alt-rocking, Americana-inspired music created by guitarist Blake Sennett, bassist Pierre de Reeder and drummer Dave Rock. Their 1999 self-titled debut, a.k.a. The Initial Friend, introduced the world to the band’s affable indie-rock charms. The band followed with four studio albums, hitting their stride on the 2004 LP, More Adventurous, their major-label debut, led by the brightly sad power-pop single "Portions for Foxes". Their career culminated with the postmortem compilation, Rkives, in 2013, which proved their timeless charm.
