About Jeff Buckley

Singer-songwriter Jeff Buckley, son of legendary ’60s vocalist Tim Buckley, began playing guitar at age five after discovering one in his grandmother’s closet. ∙ His eclectic solo sets at New York City’s Sin-é coffeehouse resulted in a deal with Columbia Records, which released his 1993 debut EP, Live at Sin-é. ∙ 1994’s Grace, the only album Buckley released during his lifetime, was named the #1 Modern Rock Classic of All Time by Mojo magazine. ∙ Several notable artists recorded musical tributes to Buckley following his death, including Chris Cornell (“Wave Goodbye”) and PJ Harvey (“Memphis”). ∙ “Everybody Here Wants You”—from Buckley’s posthumous 1998 collection, Sketches for My Sweetheart the Drunk—received a Grammy nomination for Best Male Rock Vocal Performance. ∙ His rendition of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah,” which introduced the iconic song to a new generation of listeners, was inducted into the Library of Congress’ National Recording Registry in 2014. ∙ Rolling Stone included Buckley in its list of the 100 Greatest Singers of All Time.
