Grooms

About Grooms

Brooklyn's Grooms formed when frontman Travis Johnson changed his band's name from Muggabears in the spring of 2009. Starting with the standard vocal/guitar/bass/drum lineup and adding bursts of reverb and distortion, Grooms' music sounds like a Polvo-esque jagged frenzy, with the winding guitar lines of Pavement, and Sonic Youth's washes of noise -- often all within the same song. In October of 2009, the band released its first album, Rejoicer. They continued to explore versions of slack-jawed indie pop, shoegaze, and textured rock on future albums, including their more expansive, explorative fourth LP, Comb the Feelings Through Your Hair, released in 2015. ~ Jeremy Shulkin
