About Fountains Of Wayne
Power pop group Fountains of Wayne are best known for their 2003 Grammy Award-winning hit, “Stacy’s Mom” and its popular video starring supermodel Rachel Hunter. ∙ Founders Adam Schlesinger and Chris Collingwood tried out many names—including Are You My Mother?—before selecting Fountains of Wayne, a nod to a Wayne, NJ, lawn-ornament store later featured in The Sopranos. ∙ Their first single, 1996’s fan favorite “Radiation Vibe,” reached No. 14 on Billboard’s Alternative Airplay chart and was the last song the quartet played during their final concert. ∙ Fountains of Wayne’s songs have been covered by such artists as Katy Perry (“Hackensack”) and Postmodern Jukebox (“Stacy’s Mom”). ∙ Schlesinger was nominated for an Oscar and a Golden Globe Award for his Gold-selling single “That Thing You Do!” from the Tom Hanks film of the same name. ∙ A Tony-nominated and Emmy-winning songwriter, Schlesinger was also a member of the one-off supergroup Tinted Windows with singer Taylor Hanson (Hanson), guitarist James Iha (Smashing Pumpkins), and drummer Bun E. Carlos (Cheap Trick). ∙ After Schlesinger’s untimely death from COVID-19 complications, the band reunited with Sharon Van Etten on bass to perform his song “Hackensack” for a New Jersey pandemic relief fundraiser.
