About Double You
European house group Double You? first came to prominence in the early 90s, largely through the public disagreements between their label, ZYX Records, and Network Records. Network had made overtures to obtain the license for Double You?’s version of KC And The Sunshine Band’s ‘Please Don’t Go’, but their approaches were rejected. Network employed KWS to record a version instead, earning a five-week stay at number 1 in the UK charts in 1992 in the process. Double You?’s manager Robertson Zanetti collapsed of nervous exhaustion as a result of the disagreement and subsequent litigation. Despite this, the group continued to record, achieving limited success with another cover version, ‘Run To Me’. 1994’s ‘What’s Up’, was a surprise hit, many having presumed the group to have folded, while ‘Hot Stuff’ in 1995 was uninspired, but confirmed Double You?’s continued presence in the elementary house cover version market.
