Known for his twisted, acerbic and irreverent sense of humor, folk-rocker Adam Brodsky has been called Philadelphia's equivalent of Lach (the singer/songwriter who led New York's anti-folk scene in the 1980s and 1990s). Like Lach, Brodsky specializes in anti-folk, a hard-edged blend of folk and rock that is often characterized by its biting lyrics and punk-like attitude. Musically and vocally, Bob Dylan is a big influence on singer/songwriter/acoustic guitarist Brodsky, who earned a small following playing around Philly in the 1990s. But lyrically, Brodsky has a lot more in common with punk rock's humorous side --you wouldn't find Dylan recording songs with titles like "Ballad of a Skank Ho" and "Jesus Owes Me $50," which were among the acerbic, goofy originals that Brodsky often performed at his Philly area gigs. Brodsky, who grew up in the Philly suburb of Warminster, recorded his debut album, Dork, for Permanent in 1998. ~ Alex Henderson
