We're All Going to the World's Fair (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

Writer/director Jane Schoenbrun immersed themself in the music of slacker-pop king Alex G while writing their horror flick We're All Going to the World's Fair, so hand-picking him to score the film was an easy call. The Philly singer/songwriter's first foray into film music is bookended by two tracks in keeping with his chilled-out catalogue (the laconic "Main Theme" and the gentle yet unnerving "End Song"), but it also shows how he can craft moods that are menacing enough to inspire a thousand creepypastas. Ominous drones abound, with cuts like "Stitch" and "JLB's Story" using stretched-out, hovering notes to sustain a vibe. The lengthy "Casey's Walk" punctuates its extended hum with the musical equivalent of a jump-scare, revealing a streak of darkness lurking beneath Alex's generally laidback exterior.
