Don't Tell Anyone
Mannywellz’s emergence through his 2020 EP Mirage heaped attention to the mesmerising sound he became known for. With his easy way with melody, tight songwriting and unmistakably lush elocution, Mirage elegantly chronicled him as a star on the horizon. On his 2023 album, Don’t Tell Anyone, Mannywellz (Emmanuel Ajomale) is as vulnerable and fluid as ever, imbuing every track with sweet melodies and seasoning these romantic ballads with style and boundless charisma. His penchant for making earworms can be heard all over the project. So can his ability as an intimate, incisive writer—each song woven around the emotional thrill ride of modern romance. Opener “DeJa Vu” finds the singer sweetly gratifying the presence of someone new, while atop melodic percussion, there’s a throbbing expression of romantic intent on “Everything”. Mannywellz’s rich production skill is on display here, enriching every beat to portray and elevate the romantic theme of the project, with plucky guitars added, twinkling piano melodies sweeping through and an abundance of sweet harmonies, whipping up honeyed, easy-listening moods. Flavoured by his gentle singing, standout “Miracle” is both a masterclass in retro R&B and a lesson to ignore the flaws in a partner. All through Don’t Tell Anyone, there’s just no stopping Mannywellz from being totally consumed by love.
