Apple Music Sessions: Nasty C - EP

“I evolve every time I go in the studio,” South African rapper Nasty C tells Apple Music. “As an artist, I feel like you should do that. You should learn new ways to write, new ways to produce, new ways to engineer even, every single time you go in the studio—so you can keep it fresh and keep it vibrant and keep it interesting.” For his spin on an Apple Music Session—where we ask artists to create stripped-back versions of their biggest hits, alongside a cover of one of their favourite tracks—Nasty C revisits four cuts from his 2023 album I Love It Here. “These songs are very special to me,” the rapper explains. “They hold a very special place in my heart. It’s always very, very dope performing a stripped-down version of your own songs, because it just feels like you’re highlighting the musicality behind it all, the production, the vocal production too, because the takes are different. You approach it differently because it feels more live.” Here, he also shares a cover of “Halftime”, American rapper Young Thug’s 2015 track. “It’s one of my favourites by Young Thug, and he just inspires me,” Nasty C says. “He's a very unconventional artist. The way he approaches melodies, lyrics, flows, is just different from everyone else. He’s an inspiration, not only to me, but my whole generation of hip-hop and rap [artists]. He’s an icon forever, man. Free Jeffery.”
