With a legacy as sad and beautiful as his music, Elliott Smith remains a huge influence on modern indie. He himself was inspired by some of the greats, and if you dig deep into his discography you hear echoes of his heroes. His penchant for folk was inspired by Simon & Garfunkel and Leonard Cohen, while his pop sensibilities stemmed from David Bowie and The Beach Boys.
