We first heard Dawn Richard in the R&B-pop sounds of girl group Danity Kane via Diddy's TV show Making the Band. Since that 2005 break, she's matured as an artist, pursuing experimental solo work that encompasses a boundary-crushing blend of old-school R&B and electronica. Working with producer Andrew “Druski” Scott, Richard has carefully navigated away from pristine pop toward intimate, medieval-inspired dance music, with lyrics as fantastical as the sound itself. Her transcendent ballads and spacey bangers imagine Björk beamed through a Frank Ocean and Janelle Monáe lens.
