Cavetown Essentials

Cavetown Essentials

Singer-songwriter Robin Skinner, better known to fans as Cavetown, accomplished more by his early twenties than most artists manage in a lifetime. Born in Oxford in 1998 and raised in Cambridge, Skinner developed an invitingly understated sound that bears echoes of ’90s/2000s lo-fi bedroom pop while maintaining a timeless touch. The precocious balladeer began making home recordings while still a tween and released his first album at 14. In keeping with the spirit of his generation, Skinner built an audience largely through social media instead of traditional music-biz channels, posting covers of songs by artists like Ed Sheeran and twenty one pilots alongside his own quietly melodic tunes. Starting with 2020’s Sleepyhead, he swapped the DIY route for a major label. But Skinner never abandoned the vulnerable emotional vibe that was at the core of his appeal from the start.
