When Canadian schoolmates Tom Howie and Jimmy Vallance formed duo Bob Moses in New York in 2012, the city’s dance and indie scenes were both thriving, but they didn’t want to have to choose. Instead, on early EPs and their debut album, 2015’s Days Gone By, they mastered a dusky hybrid sound pairing moody deep house with soulful vocals and nuanced instrumentation. Over the years, they’ve built a unique and classic sound along those lines, drawing inspiration from ’80s New Wave and timeless singer-songwriters and balancing late-night grooves with expansive arrangements on a wide array of instruments. “We love electronic music and we love guitars and we love drums,” Howie told Apple Music. “Bob Moses has always been that combination of man and machine.”
