At Home With Tommy Lee: The Playlist

“I guess my excuse for not putting anything out in quite some time is I’d been really busy with Mötley,” Mötley Crüe’s Tommy Lee says about taking his time to release his third solo album Andro. “We wrapped up in 2016 and I took one year off. I was like, that's it. I don't want to talk about it. I want to do it. I'm going to do a fucking musical cleanse.” In his interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, the legendary drummer talks about the challenges he faced getting his band to keep up with the times, helping Machine Gun Kelly portray him in the Mötley Crüe biopic The Dirt and venturing into many different music genres on his new album. Many of his genre-hopping influences made it into this exclusive Apple Music playlist curated by Lee himself, highlighting songs that are getting him through from artists like Curtis Waters, Francis and the Lights, Logic and German record producer Boys Noize. “I love that approach,” Lee says about the latter’s minimal electronic music on the track “Overthrow”. “There’s only so much room in speakers, and when there’s that much room, they get to really work because they’re not filled with a bunch of other frequencies taking up space.”
