Kenny Burrell Essentials

In more ways than not, Kenny Burrell is jazz guitar. Boasting a round, warm tone that's changed little since he made his recording debut as a member of Dizzy Gillespie's sextet in 1951, Burrell was Duke Ellington's favourite guitarist and inspired Jimi Hendrix to say, "Kenny Burrell, that's the sound I'm looking for". Born into a musical family in Detroit in 1931, Burrell has enjoyed a Zelig-like career that includes appearances on Billie Holiday's final album, Jimmy Smith's soul-jazz masterpiece Back at the Chicken Shack and Tony Bennett's Carnegie Hall debut.
