About Sunrise Skater Kids

Sunrise Skater Kids is a fictional Baltimore, Maryland pop-punk band created by YouTube comedian Jarrod Alonge. Employing sharp, witty humor that parodied the Warped Tour scene, Alonge enlisted a crew of musicians -- often from bands he was poking fun at -- to help with Sunrise Skater Kids' songs. The band first appeared on Alonge's 2015 debut comedy album, Beating a Dead Horse, a "compilation" that featured fictional bands that parodied metalcore, screamo, emo, and other subgenres of punk and metal. Sunrise Skater Kids' debut LP, Friendville, was released in early 2016. It included previously released tracks from the Dead Horse album, along with new tracks like the social justice takedown "Trigger Warning" and the emo take on millennial Star Wars villain "Rylo Ken." Mimicking bands like blink-182, Good Charlotte, NOFX, Neck Deep, All Time Low, Green Day, and All-American Rejects, Sunrise Skater Kids' songs concerned topics like mosh pit etiquette ("Pit Warrior"), band-fan interactions ("Friendville"), and satirical millennial observations ("First World Tragedy"). Humorous lyrics aside, the music was technically proficient, written by Alonge and sung by Varrick Jay of Insomniac, with assists from Johnny Franck (ex-Attack Attack!), JB Brubaker (August Burns Red), Dave Stephens (We Came as Romans), Patty Walters (As It Is), Christina Rotondo (Faultlines), Brittain Clay (Boys of Fall), and many more. The album went on to top the Billboard Comedy chart and rose close to the Top Ten of the Heatseekers chart. That summer, they joined the Warped Tour alongside many of the bands they lampooned. ~ Neil Z. Yeung
