Kati Debretzeni, the long-serving leader of Sir John Gardiner’s English Baroque Soloists, steps into the limelight with this impressive Bach concerto album. In addition to the two genuine violin concertos (BWV 1041 and 1042), Debretzeni includes a couple of transcriptions of harpsichord concertos. Her own version of BWV 1053 sits perfectly under the violinist’s fingers and she embraces both the sparkling originality of Bach’s genius as well as his deep humanity. The two violin concertos sing delightfully and Debretzeni’s EBS colleagues support her beautifully. In a crowded field, this is a welcome addition by musicians totally steeped in Bach’s music and his world.
