Dylan Baldi’s early music under the Cloud Nothings name is a bit of an anomaly: it’s punky, it’s poppy, but you’d never quite call it pop-punk. Expanding on the lo-fi freneticism of the singles-and-EP collection Turning On, Cloud Nothings finds Baldi cleaning up his sound and letting the strengths in his songwriting show, from sweet but blistering tracks like “Should Have” and “All the Time” to the rangier, angstier “Not Important,” which gave a glimpse of the bite his band had in store.
