Featuring the brothers Troutman—Roger, Larry, Terry and Lester—Zapp & Roger produced some of the most memorable funk and boogie tracks of the early ‘80s. Their hits would be sampled by numerous hip-hop artists including legends like 2Pac and Dr. Dre. Roger's use of a talk box on the group's tracks gave the music a distinctive sound that would be copied by other artists throughout the ‘80s. They would release several albums during the decade but by 1989 modern music had changed and their fame receded, only to resurface a few years later when artists began sampling their songs.
