WALK THE MOON’s bright, buoyant alt-rock is meant to get you moving. The Ohio band’s huge, flashy hooks meld high-powered synth-pop with the fast, frenetic drive of EDM. 2014’s heart-pumping “Shut Up and Dance” and the world-beat romp “Work This Body” almost drive listeners to break a sweat. Frontman Nicholas Petricca’s staccato falsetto croons push every groove along, as the band reach liftoff with grand choruses on New Wave thrillers like “Lost in the Wild” and “Timebomb”. Even when they press on the brakes, as on the airy, synth-driven “Aquaman”, they’re still in the mood to dance—slow, that is.
