The Go-Go's combined post-punk spikiness with girl-group sweetness, but their potent pop got a charge from other guitar-fuelled genres. The handclap-driven instrumental “Surfing and Spying” recalls starlit surf rock; “He's So Strange” dwells in garage rock's darker, messier corners; and the speedy rave-up “Throw Me a Curve” brings to mind punk's earliest, sweatiest days.
