The New York–based post-hardcore band Glassjaw got together in 1993, but it wasn't until 2000 that Roadrunner Records released their influential debut LP, Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Silence. The album was a testament to the hard-hitting and eclectic style that the band had developed over the past seven years. Incorporating a wide range of styles including screamo, metalcore and pop-rock, Silence was initially a commercial disappointment but is now considered a cult classic exceeding their follow-up efforts.
