In 2009, when Berghain resident Ben Klock first opened up his Klockworks label to outside talent, it was to release the work of DVS1, a.k.a. Zak Khutoretsky. His debut release was all the Minnesota native needed to launch an international career, and a record on Derrick May's Transmat and remixes for VCMG and Nina Kraviz soon followed. Known for his darkly lustrous brand of machine-tooled techno, he's as sparing with his releases as he is with his beats. While he reserves his HUSH label for his own work, in 2013 he launched Mistress Recordings as a platform for his shadow-dwelling friends.
