About Sherine

Egypt's Sherine Abdel-Wahab aka Sherine is a popular singer, actress, and former judge on the televised vocal competition The Voice. Born in Cairo in 1980, Sherine first began singing in grade school. At her teacher's urging, Sherine's parents took her to sing for Cairo Opera House conductor Selim Sehab. Impressed, Sehab invited the promising vocalist to join the Cairo Opera Children's Choir. Beginning at age nine, Sherine sang and studied as a member of the choir. By her teens, she was an adept solo performer and eventually caught the ear of producer/music executive Nasr Mahrous, who began helping her develop her pop career. In 2000, Sherine debuted with several singles, including "Ah Ya Leil." However, it was after Mahrous paired her with singer Tamer Hosny for 2002's Free Mix3 that her career took off. A hit, the album sold over 30 million copies and raised Sherine to superstar status. Around this time, she also launched her acting career, starring in the 2003 film Mido Mashakel. From there, she delivered a handful of hugely popular albums, including 2003's Garh Tany, 2005's Lazem A'eesh, 2008's Bataminak, and 2009's Habeat. In 2012, Sherine released the studio album Esaal Alaya, which also sold well, topping the charts across the Middle East. She followed up with 2014's Ana Keteer and 2015's Tareqe. During this period, she also appeared as a judge on the Egyptian version of The Voice. After leaving the show in 2015, Sherine, who has two daughters, intimated that she might retire from show business. However, in 2016 she returned with the single "Taira Mn el Farha." ~ Matt Collar
