Los Primos Del Este

The vast majority of 21st trap corridos and musica mexicana recordings emerge from south of the United States/Mexico border or from the West Coast of the U.S. Los Primos Del Este are an anomaly: Their gorgeous take on traditional musica mexicana originates in North Carolina on the East Coast. Founded by Geovanni Flores (guitar, songwriting, harmonica, and lead vocals), David Munoz (vocals, songwriting), Erik Altamirano (requinto), and Ariel López (bass), Los Primos Del Este issued half-a-dozen singles digitally including "El Primer Gallo" and "Quiero Ce." They've continued their prolific single and EP releases ever since. Their first two albums, PDE and Emociones, appeared from Grand Records in 2020. Most songs were co-written by Flores and Munoz. The latter left the group in 2022, leaving Flores the group's principal composer and singer. The innovative romanticos album Amor De Lejos was released by the core trio in 2023 on Interscope. Poesías arrived in 2024; its final track, "No Fuiste Tu," was recorded in collaboration with La Energia Nortena. ~ Thom Jurek
