JD Souther

About JD Souther

Though he lacked major chart hits and never achieved blockbuster album sales, John David "J.D." Souther was one of the key figures of the 1970s Los Angeles country-rock movement. He was part of the duo Longbranch Pennywhistle with future Eagle Glenn Frye, and later a member of the Souther-Hillman-Furay Band, a supergroup put together by David Geffen. Souther's songs had a mellow country twang and classic pop sensibility that made him a go-to songwriter for the likes of Linda Ronstadt, Bonnie Raitt, and the Eagles themselves. Though Souther had more of an impact as a behind-the-scenes player, he has continued to release acclaimed solo albums into the 21st century. ~ Rovi Staff
