About Gallery
The British group Gallery released a nice if unexceptional folk record for the small MIDAS label in 1972. Though largely in the traditional acoustic folk mold, including some well-worn songs like "False Bride" and "Let No Man Steal Your Thyme," it's not wholly in the most traditional strain of British folk, including some electric bass. Although its CD reissue on the Kissing Spell label might lead some collectors to think that it's folk-rock or acid folk, as that company put out quite a few re-releases of British rarities from that era in those styles, it's really more straight folk, though there are similarities at times to the most traditional folk tracks of bands such as Pentangle. That CD reissue includes a 20-minute bonus track of excerpts from 1969 rehearsals. ~ Richie Unterberger
