About Emma Ruth Rundle

Blending the brooding atmospherics of goth and the wild guitars of experimental metal with the detailed storytelling of folk, Emma Ruth Rundle has been honing her vision of heavy music in her solo music and collaborative projects since her youth. Born in Los Angeles in 1983, Rundle began playing guitar as a teenager, and her first band, the folk-gaze outfit The Nocturnes, put out their debut EP in 2008. Rundle joined the post-rock band Red Sparowes for their third album, 2010’s The Fear Is Excruciating, But Therein Lies The Answer. The following year brought her first solo release, the experimental Electric Guitar: One; she then formed the group Marriages with Red Sparowes bassist Greg Burns. During the recording of Marriages' first full-length, Salome, Rundle also worked on her first proper solo album, Some Heavy Ocean, which came out in 2014. That was followed by Marked For Death, which increased the brutality of Rundle’s music both sonically and lyrically. She then released On Dark Horses, which possessed a newfound lightness, and followed it up with May Our Chambers Be Full, a collaboration with Louisiana sludgers Thou. Engine of Hell, which took a starker sonic approach, came next, and in 2022 Rundle released her second album of guitar experiments, EG2: Dowsing Voice.
