“It’s a honky-tonk on steroids,” Miranda Lambert tells Apple Music about her Las Vegas residency, Velvet Rodeo, on now at Planet Hollywood. “Lots of fire, rhinestones and fringe, and I love all of those things.” The country music superstar says she’s enjoyed the creative flexibility that performing in a single, stationary location provides. “I’m able to do stuff I’ve never done on the road before, production-wise.” It also allows her to tackle more complicated topics—the liberation of divorce, the burden of fame—in an intimate, customised setting. “My residency tells the story of my music visually, and also [serves as] a journey through my career, from starting out with something to prove until today. I’ve lived a lot of life and my fans have too. This show covers all of that.” But Lambert, who has one of the most consistently excellent catalogues in contemporary country music, is nothing if not a powerhouse, and the production’s biographical nature often feels triumphant. “This is definitely a one-of-a-kind Miranda Lambert experience,” she says. “I’m from Texas, so bigger hair and more sequins. Don’t threaten me with a good time.”
