If one can say anything about Farruko as an artist, it’s that he knows how to effectively operate in any genre space he chooses. His evolution from Latin trap pioneer to EDM anthem generator was momentous enough, yet his subsequent pivot toward Christian themes may very well be the most noteworthy of his creative choices. Coming fewer than two months after the faith-based Transition compilation effectively rebooted his Carbon Fiber Music imprint, CVRBON VRMOR [C_DE: G_D.O.N.] furthers his cause. The seven songs here reacquaint him with styles he’s long been dominant in, as well as familiarise him with some in which he’s relatively new to performing. The opening “CARBON VRMOR” and the immediately following “G_D.O.N.” showcase his reggaetonero and trapero modes, yet the vibes shift noticeably from there. “SAHARA” with Spanish singer Elena Vargas integrates Middle Eastern instrumentation through its dancehall foundation, while “APOCALYPSE” plays toward a different albeit familiar kind of pop-rock punchiness. Rest assured, Farruko doesn’t dare depart without leaving a summer jam on deck, in this case the upbeat closer “RANGOS”.
