Inveterate indie rock troublemaker Luke Haines' The Auteurs may have shared similar '60s rock influences with his contemporaries, but his antagonistic, literate songs and refusal to join the Britpop party set him apart. Working with noise rock icon and fellow curmudgeon Steve Albini on The Auteurs' third album merely gave their music even more of an irritant's edge. The Auteurs disbanded in 1999 and this playlist showcases cuts from all four of their albums. Haines went on to form Black Box Recorder.
