Led by the outspoken Mad Mike Banks, the politicised collective known as Underground Resistance were part of the second wave of producers that reshaped Detroit techno in the early '90s. Cranking the tempo and adding a snarling edge to their synths, UR's early releases were brutal assaults that tore up the European rave scene, but the crew have also released lush, jazzy classics that trade hammering intensity for gorgeous atmosphere. Working under a range of aliases and featuring an ever-shifting lineup, UR continue to lead their defiantly anti-commercial techno crusade in the 21st century.
