Frank Farian is the visionary producer (and deep male voice) behind Boney M's gloriously eccentric disco productions. Each one is as sumptuous and arresting (not to mention funky) as anything by Chic or Giorgio Moroder, but with cartoonish hooks that made the band appear to be larger-than-life pop stars. This allowed them to dynamically rework Jamaican reggae songs, plaintive gospel laments and old psychedelic hits with the same glee, innocence and warmth they applied to their own songs about Rasputin, American gangsters and even the troubles in Northern Ireland.
