About Society

Britain's Society is a collaborative pop duo featuring the talents of vocalist Jamie Girdler and producer Brendan Lynch. Formed in 2012, the project revolves around Girdler and Lynch's love of old-school R&B, orchestral soul, and atmospheric '60s pop, as well as the influence of modern DJ productions by artists like the Avalanches and rapper J Dilla. Initially, the project came together after the dissolution of Girdler's former band Beggars, who spent several years in career limbo while their label, Heavenly Recordings, suffered problems due to restructuring at partner label EMI around 2010. During that period, Redding native Girdler spent time at Heavenly's offices soaking up vintage recordings from Scott Walker, Dusty Springfield, Leonard Cohen, and more. As Lynch had produced Beggars' unreleased album, the pair decided to work on something new. In 2012, the duo's debut single, "All That We've Become," appeared as a limited-edition 7". In 2015, Society returned with the '70s soul-inflected single "The Fear, the Hate." ~ Matt Collar
