One of the Truckers’ hallmarks is big and brash Southern-rock tunes. But Go-Go Boots pulls back a little, offering up a more laidback alt-country vibe on gems like bassist Shonna Tucker’s barroom weeper “Dancin’ Ricky” or guitar player Mike Cooley’s wiry “Cartoon Gold”, with its old-time shuffle. “Used to Be a Cop” comes close to being a ferocious rock ‘n’ roll attack but stays in the dark, simmering yet never exploding. And “Mercy Buckets” delivers a heaping helping of twang.
