The vastness of Six Organs' catalogue can be overwhelming. Ben Chasny is basically three artists in one—American primitive guitarist, psychedelic explorer and moody singer/songwriter—which has allowed him to traverse many sounds since the late ‘90s. In addition to elegant acoustic cuts built around cyclical fingerpicking (“Elk River”), he creates Eastern drone rockers bursting with acid freak-outs (“Black Wall”). The emotional content of his music is also expansive: On the uneasily swaying ballad “Spirits Abandoned”, his hushed, weary voice sounds like a ship set adrift on a sea of loneliness.
