In a career spanning over six decades, Richard Anthony made an indelible mark on French pop. Classics such as “Amoureux de ma femme” shine in his oeuvre alongside multiple Francophone covers of American pop hits—not to mention “Leçon de twist”, his spin on the ’60s dance craze. Born Ricardo Abraham Btesh in Egypt, Anthony also recorded songs in Arabic (“Inch’allah”) and English, and was renowned for the cool and calm demeanour reflected in his vocal stylings. It’s a combination so compelling that it continues to resonate well beyond his passing in 2015.
