Rebecca Clarke Essentials

Rebecca Clarke Essentials

Born in 1886, violist and composer Rebecca Clarke would not only become one of the first female professional orchestral musicians—she'd also leave behind a hefty catalogue of compositions for both chamber and vocal ensembles. Her training at the Royal Academy of Music and the Royal College of Music gave her a tremendous foundation, but it's her love of Debussy and Ravel that clearly comes through in works like the impressionistic, delicate “Lullaby” and the shimmering Sonata for Viola and Piano. The Piano Trio and the Rhapsody for Cello and Piano give a sense of her impeccable counterpoint and rich style.
