Some talents only appear once in a generation, and the Mexican singer/songwriter and producer Joss Favela—also known as “El Lujo de Sinaloa”—is one of them. As a songwriter, he’s penned hits for a stellar array of Mexican artists including Gerardo Ortíz, Banda El Recodo and Alejandro Fernández; by the age of 27, he’d won three ASCAP Composer of the Year awards. In 2015, after writing for so many others, he returned to recording, releasing the hit LP Hecho a Mano in 2016. He uncovers veins of intense emotion in fresh banda, norteño and ranchera compositions that could stand shoulder to shoulder with the classics.
