Hank Mobley Essentials

Hank Mobley Essentials

Hard bop doesn't get any more classic than the music made by this saxophone legend. Capable of crafting tuneful lines of solo melody, he also thrived as part of a front line of horn players. But his career is famed for more than just the work he helped to create as one of drummer Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers. This mix focuses on dates led by Mobley himself, during which he generally had greater room to indulge his warm, soulful approach to tenor saxophone. You'll find him in communion with other drum greats (like Billy Higgins) as well as guitarists like Grant Green.
