About Willie J Laws Jr

In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. There are two that come to mind. When I was five or six, Stacks Records put out a 45 called Barefoot. My grandfather owned a beer joint in Texas, and there was a jukebox in the corner where I would listen and dance to Barefoot on repeat. What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Blind Lemon Jefferson, Best Recordings of Blind Lemon Jefferson Lightnin' Hopkins, The Very Best of Lightnin' Hopkins (Expanded Edition) The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Are You Experienced Deluxe Version I love these albums because they are a huge inspiration to me. Listening to them helps my writing process, my singing, and my overall performance in general. Though, it's hard just to pick three since my love for albums changes all the time. What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? Playing with Willie Nelson at his 4th of July picnic in 1996 was incredible. There were 13,00 people there, and my brother and I were the only black folks there. It was like nothing I've ever experienced before. Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? I think every artist would say the same, but I would love to earn a Grammy award. It just shows that I've earned respect in the industry and have accomplished a lifelong dream.
