About The Dance

The Dance were part of the game-changing late-'70s/early-'80s downtown New York scene, creating a terse and exciting hybrid of funk, punk, minimalism, and dub experimentalism. Like some of their genre-defying peers, the Dance glued together seemingly incompatible styles to form something new, and were highly active for a brief window of time. Along with some members serving as the backing band for child post-punk prodigy Chandra, the Dance left behind several singles and two full-length albums, 1981's In Lust and 1982's Soul Force.
