About Sandy

Sandy is a Brazilian pop singer with an MPB style who made her smash hit album debut with Manuscrito in 2010 after two decades of phenomenal success in tandem with her brother in the teen pop duo Sandy e Junior. Born Sandy Leah Lima on January 28, 1983, in Campinas, São Paulo, Brazil, she is the daughter of Xororó (born Durval de Lima) from Chitãozinho & Xororó, one of the most successful sertanejo duos of all time. Sandy began her career at an early age in tandem with her brother Junior Lima (born Durval de Lima, Jr., on April 11, 1984) in the duo Sandy e Junior. They began performing together in 1989 and made their full-length album debut with Aniversário do Tatu in 1991. A multimedia phenomenon at the height of their success, Sandy e Junior peaked in popularity around the turn of the century with the multi-million-selling albums Era Uma Vez: Ao Vivo (1998), As Quatro Estações (1999), As Quatro Estações: O Show (2000), and Sandy e Junior (2001). Following 15 albums, two films, and five seasons of their television series, the sister-and-brother duo dissolved their partnership in 2007 after a farewell tour and the unplugged album Acústico MTV (2007). Sandy then took a few years off before embarking on a solo career with Manuscrito in 2010. Released in association with Universal Music, Manuscrito was a Top Five hit on the Brazilian albums chart and spawned the singles "Pés Cansados" and "Sem Jeito." In contrast to her work in Sandy e Junior, the album finds Sandy adopting a sophisticated MPB style and performing her own songs, many of them co-written with Lucas Lima. ~ Jason Birchmeier
