About Marcantonio Barone

Pianist Marcantonio Barone is a specialist in contemporary music who has premiered works by composers, including George Rochberg, David Finko, and Gerald Levinson. Prizes at the 1985 Busoni and 1987 Leeds International Piano Competitions helped Barone launch an international career, and in the 1980s and '90s, he appeared as a soloist with a variety of major ensembles at home and abroad. He made his recording debut in 2012 with violinist Barbara Govatos, recording Beethoven's complete violin sonatas. Barone is on the faculty at Swarthmore College and his alma mater, the Bryn Mawr Conservatory. In 2020 and 2021, he released recordings of Crumb's Metamorphoses, Books I and II.
