About Bat for Lashes

Brighton, England's Bat for Lashes is the brainchild of Pakistan-born singer/songwriter Natasha Khan, who cites Steve Reich and Susan Hiller as influences, while echoes of Björk and Siouxsie Sioux are heard throughout her mystical indie rock sound. Bat for Lashes' first single, "The Wizard," was released in early 2006. That fall, with "Trophy" burning up the BBC indie rock chart, the Fur and Gold LP arrived in the U.K., and was released a year later in the U.S. to much critical acclaim. The ambitious follow-up album Two Suns arrived in 2009, and Khan's third album, 2012's The Haunted Man, raised eyebrows with its cover image depicting her in the nude, but songs such as the single "Laura" were more subtle than her previous efforts. ~ MacKenzie Wilson
