Pop Evil Essentials

Pop Evil Essentials

Pop Evil's name is a deliberately devilish contrast. The Michigan hard rock group embrace melody, but they hurl it through the speakers via adrenaline-heavy headbangers. At times, guitarist Nick Fuelling's cadence chugs along with Motörhead-like ferocity (“Deal with the Devil”) or a dark intimacy that evokes fellow post-grunge revivalists Puddle of Mudd (“Torn to Pieces”). It's an eclectic update of certain underground rock sounds—liberal, sludgy guitar solos; drums placed loud in the mix; a scream-sing vocal performance—that never really went away.
