After winning over Simon Cowell on Britain’s Got Talent, Calum Scott has proven his poignant pop prowess to the rest of the world. The English singer-songwriter (born in 1988 in Yorkshire) didn’t win the popular singing competition in 2015. However, he found greater success on his own, with a moving piano cover of Robyn’s “‎Dancing On My Own” and later as the smooth, supple voice on catchy dance cuts with DJs such as Lost Frequencies and Jax Jones. But his originals—like the gripping pop hit “You Are the Reason” from his 2018 debut LP, Only Human, and “No Matter What”, a candid account of coming out (from the album’s deluxe edition)—are powerful testaments to staying true to oneself.
