If Autotelic’s main motivation is making music for themselves—the band’s name means “self-fulfilling” after all—the results have captivated their fellow Filipinos. By crafting a Pinoy sound that combines indie rock and electropop, the six-piece—whose members cut their teeth in various post-punk and alternative rock groups—contrast insistent pop hooks with subdued, stripped-back moments. The results are never less than earnest, especially when carried by Josh Villena and Kai Honasan’s transcendent vocal harmonies.
