Indie rock and jazz fusion band SUD leave an unmistakable impression. Their compelling, soulful grooves set the Philippine group apart, infusing them with saxophone and keys. The University of Santo Tomas music majors quickly found popularity on the indie scene, but it was 2015 hit “Sila” that catapulted them to mainstream fame. The five-piece continues to shift between styles on subsequent releases, moving from sax-rich jazz harmonies on “Profanities” to sinuous bass beats on “Smilky” and soaring rock arrangements on “Headlights”. But beyond the uniquely blended sound, SUD’s lyrics are their unique strength, soaked with warmth and humanity.
